Actually, picking up the gestural and vocal tics of another person is indicative of a close personal relationship. You see it frequently in people who would describe themselves as ‘soul mates’ either of the friend or romantic variety. You also see it frequently in people who are just beginning to form one such attraction. It’s called mirroring, and it’s paired with a flood of oxytocin, the cuddle hormone.

I always try it out on dates. It’s much easier to observe whether or not someone likes you than to ask. Body language never lies.
